October 2015, Paris, France, Orangerie Museum
The Orangerie Museum, founded in late 16th century, is located in Tuileries Gardens in heart of Paris, France. In 1668, Le Notre, famous architect of royal garden during Louis XIV period, combined original first French fortress and garden design here. In 1918, before his death, Monet decided to donate Water Lilies to French government. Since then, Water Lilies have become a popular exhibit at Musée de l'Orangerie and have also turned Musée du Orangerie into an elegant palace of art.
The exhibition hall of Orangery Art Museum has an oval shape and is divided into two floors. Among them, there are two exhibition rooms on ground floor to display Monet's work, and each exhibition room houses three long paintings. In addition, exhibition hall on ground floor also features paintings by many masters from end of Impressionism to World War II, including Cezanne, Renoir, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso and more.
One, Monet's Water Lilies series
Claude Monet, a French painter and founder of impressionism, left over 500 sketches and 2,000 oil paintings during his lifetime, among which most famous and high-profile works are Water Lilies series.
From 1897 to 1926, Monet painted a total of 181 works from Water Lilies series. Among them, huge Water Lily series began at age of 74 and continued for 12 years until his death at age of 86. We can say that this is a summary of expression of light and color by great artist Monet. This is a magnificent epic, brightest "Ninth Symphony" in life of painter.
Before his death, Monet asked to transfer his series "Water Lilies" to French government. Because of uniqueness and magnificence of ring group mural "Waters", when it was installed in oval exhibition hall of museum, it was nicknamed "Sistine Chapel of Impressionism".
